The weeks that were (the extreme highlights edition)
I have been meaning to do this all evening but channel surfing between the NFC game and extreme makeover Buffalo kinda took over.
Some of the last couple of weeks highlights include the Theophilus London track Humdrum town this brooklyn boy is headed for very big things. just wondering is it just me or does the start of this track sound like when the doves cry.
For the rock heads check out Leeches Of Lore with Cenozoic death waltz but don't you just want to slap the drunk chick fucking with the keyboards. Other highlights include the Kiwi aussie hip hop connection Beatkamp and an amazing new track from gil-scott-heron.
Cheers for reading if you like what you hear spread the word tell ya friends, drop a comment good or bad peace.
ps i gotta go sleep now apparently i am a pastry cook now too.

Prefuse 73 with Live Band, Gaslamp Killer, Voices Voices - Soundlab Buffalo 1/21/10
Arriving at soundlab which is a great little club there was a big crowd and an expectant air of excitement. Gaslamp Killer was dropping his brand of dubstep with his wild hair and infectious dancing behind the decks i was expecting a fun night.
Then Prefuse 73 and cohorts took the stage and for a while the crowd was into it but after a while it just got tedious fast they would hit a great beat and then just destroy it with noise. i don't mind feedback noise etc being a fan of artists like Sonic youth to lightning bolt but there really seemed no point to it. With little or no crowd interaction people either left or just seemed confused. The two tracks from One Word Extinguisher near the end were the highlights for sure but they were to little to late the set ended muted applause and no calls for an encore pretty much summed up the mood. very disappointing.
As a side note i have heard Prefuse 73 solo shows are fantastic, maybe next time.

Joy Division - Atmosphere
Occasionally i get asked what my favourite band is and for a while now it has been Joy Division and this tune probably the one that resonates with me the most. A lot of times i get blank stares which surprises me and when you tell them they became New Order after Ian Curtis unfortunate passing you get you get a much more Positive response.
While only releasing two albums the songs are some of the powerful ever recorded which has a lot to do with Ian curtis tortured soul. For those of you that no very little about Joy Division give them a spin also check out movies such as Control powerful affecting stuff.

From julie's latest album "I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day" and the fuzz and rock is back from her days with Eric's Trip. Fantastic .
The Week That Was
Well we are already 10 days into 2010 and this little blog that keeps on living got its own facebook page this week. Its a fun way for me to discover new and revisit old tracks and share some of that joy of discovery.
This weeks highlights included RjD2 fantastic new video for the track " Let There Be Horns " it shows there is no limit to the imagination. Another remix of Drakes forever by Nosaj Thing look for big things from him the future and the remix well i think its the best one i have heard.
Australian siblings Angus And Julia Stone track And The Boys and Hurricane Bells "This Year" both showed that simple song structures can and will stir the soul. And for pure entertainment check out a SISSY NOBBY track its bloody hilarious and brilliant.
In buffalo things are a little quiet this week but shows from Prefuse 73, Mr Liff , Dr Dog and Cold Cave in the near future will warm things up nicely.
Happy new year people peace and aloha.

The Heads ( Live 07 )
I have been a huge fan of these guys since picking up "the time is now" way back in 98. The second half of this track is pure bliss , The Heads are the most criminally underrated band in the universe.

Hurricane Bells - "This Year"

YOUNG SID - "MADE"
Fresh from success with Smashproof Young Sid is about to release his second solo album in april 2010 What Doesn't Kill Me. This is the first single and its kinda addictive , heard a few negatives about the video but its simple and you focus on the track. I mean how many times can you show scantily clad girls grinding/dancing not that thats a bad thing either.
